Xmas 2018 - 5 Jan2019
Well we are back! It’s just like coming home after being away!! So good to catch up with everything that’s been going on. Still so much to see and do - or even revisit! We can never tire of the area - the proximity of the snow covered mountains to the suntrap lowlands (if that makes sense!), blue skies, wonderful views, sunrises, sunsets, fog localised to the valleys, playing in snow, basking in warmth - just everything to take your mind off the workload back in the UK. Monty and Maddie - no cares in the world - greet you tails wagging - what’s not to like about the place? As for the Gite - just perfect - we are tried and tested in the world of gites and in all our years this one is 100% perfect! Spoilt beyond spoiling!! Week 2 of our stay. The weather has just been fantastic. Beautiful clear blue skies, sun and fantastic views. We have explored so much of the Pyrenees, without too much snow, we have walked in places we couldn’t during our last Xmas stay. So many super walks, steep climbs but worth the effort for the views at the top. Marianne and Brian (together with Monty and Maddie) have been perfect hosts, giving us suggestions of where to visit and suitable walks. We will be back! Bonne Année for 2019,
Sarah and Simon x P.s. we have trekked 97km over the 2 weeks!!

There really isn’t anything to add to what has already been said about the Gite and about Marianne and Brian. Nothing is ever too much trouble. This is our second visit here and it most certainly won’t be our last. We will both really miss them both and also Monty and Maddie. All we can do is both look forward to being able to spend some more time together with great friends. Thank you both.

25th August - 8th September 2018
We have had a very relaxing holiday in this beautiful part of France and thank you to Brian and Marianne for making us feel welcome, lovely to meet a fellow Cornishman! Visited some amazing places, the Roman ruins at Montmaurin, the cathedral at St Bertrand de Comminges and the Grottes de Gargas. Lannemezan had a delightful market, lots to see and loads of produce to buy. Enjoyed a fabulous lunchtime meal at Le Clos Bleu (Villeneuve de Rivière), excellent food and service. The motor museum at Saint Gaudens was fascinating especially as the original spectator seating remains on the road side. Highlight of the stay had to be Le Petit Train d’Artouste, tricky to find but well worth the effort. Cable car then train ride in the Pyrenees, amazing! There is a walk to the Lac d’Artouste at the end of the ride, I suggest stout walking shoes, a pair of hiking sticks and decent pair of lungs! The view once there is magnificent. If you enjoy poking around junk shops, the Brocante at Saint Gaudens is well worth a visit, you never know what you may find. The weather has been on the whole kind to us and we have seen some awesome thunderstorms. The pool was welcome after sitting in the sun. Safe to say we return home well rested and wish Brian and Marianne a successful rest of the season.
Kind regards Tina and Mick Leedstown, Cornwall
18th - 25th August 2018
We said we would return and we have been true to our word! It has been every bit as relaxing and comfortable as the last time we were here. Also, just as hot - thank goodness for the pool!! We managed one walk in the mountains but had just as much pleasure walking the quiet lanes from the house and observing the local wildlife. It was delightful to watch the redstarts hunting around the pool and the hummingbird hawk moths on the lavender. Thank you so much Marianne, Brian, Monty and Maddie for the warm welcome - it’s been great to be back! We hope you have a successful year and we look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Brian and Marianne, So stay number 5 is finally over. As always we love the Gite and your wonderful company. I got my cycling mojo back - can’t believe the mileage I racked up! Walking with donkeys was such a treat especially for Ailla who I hope will store that as her favourite moment rather than sleeping in the boot of the car on the way back from the Boulogne fireworks!!! This is always our happy place, just sitting on the terrace, watching the night skies. xxx Until next year.....à bientôt Helen, Darren, Alex and Ailla (now 5!) xxxxxxxxxxx Dear Brian and Marianne, Thank you for letting us stay in the Gite.
Love from Alex and Ailla

We’ve had the most wonderful week which has passed by far too quickly in this beautiful place. The Gite has been very comfortable, a home from home, equipped with everything we needed. Such a lovely building - we loved sitting out on the terrace to eat, enjoying those fantastic views. Thank you for the welcome tray of lovely things especially the delicious homemade jam. The pool has been so relaxing, again a gorgeous place to be and admire the views! We’ve visited some really interesting places and pretty towns and villages, also travelled to Pau which was a lovely city to visit. We loved Saint Bertrand, Saint Just, Saint Gaudens and the Roman villa at Montmaurin. Thank you so much for your kindness and hospitality and for being so generous with your time and your welcome. It was wonderful to just sit and chat in the garden with the dogs over a glass of wine. We will return home most relaxed and with lots of memories. We hope to return soon and see some more of those gorgeous mountains! Wishing you a wonderful rest of the summer season! Thank you once again for a fantastic holiday! Woof to Monty and Maddie - we will miss their antics!

Following on from our son’s wedding celebrations, what a wonderful place to spend our second week in France. The cottage and all the facilities have been first class, one of the best gîtes we have stayed in in all our travels!!! Market in Montréjeau is worth visiting. Also a must is St Bertrand de Comminges and the spectacular cathedral. A highlight of the week was our hike with guide Marc. Met him in Aspet and car climb to near Pic de Cagire. We climbed up through forests and then up to the Pic, what breathtaking views! An experience we will long remember. Thank you Marianne and Brian for your warm welcome - great hosts. We are very envious of your lovely home. Best wishes

The Gite is in a fantastic location and has all the things needed for a real home from home. The welcome was warm and the welcome pack very thoughtful. We have had a fantastic time cycling in the Pyrenees and will be back to bag a few more Cols. Thanks for a fantastic week.

So eine tolle Woche hatten wir!! We really enjoyed the beautiful Gite....the kitchen, living room, bedrooms, bathroom: everything fantastic! You’ve made the Gite very welcoming and we felt at home! The situation is marvellous with the garden and the view. The way we were treated, the welcome, all the lovely things on the table, thank you very much! Marianne and Brian, we hope to come back. All the best for you...and the lovely dogs :-)

Our third time in this wonderful Gite - who would not want to come back to this location! The weather wasn’t as kind as usual, but on the wet days the Gite was warm and comfortable, thank you for the games! However, we still managed to have some fantastic experiences - the lakes at the Neouville National Park are breathtaking - quite a drive up to the top - but so worth it! Go on a Thursday so you can call in at Arreau market - so pretty. Again Marianne and Brian (and Monty and Maddie) have been great hosts - more like friends now. Thank you for joining us again for my birthday - and the cake! We can’t come next year - but we will be back! Best wishes

What a fantastic location and great hosts, including Monty and Maddie. Had a wonderful time cycling the nearly deserted roads. Great local markets. Great views from the Gite! We had a lovely relaxing holiday - hope to come back.

Dear Brian and Marianne, Thank you so much for your exceptional Gite, kindness and hospitality. We love the peace and tranquility at this special place. Thank you for the cycling experience, and sorry about the gears. The hospitality of Monty and Maddie is also worthy of note, they are so good natured. Thanks again and warm regards

This has been a beautiful stay. Your Gite is wonderful, very warm and inviting. I’m so glad it was warm the first few days so we all could walk and explore the lower fields and walk the trails. What a surprise they were! The view of the mountains is wonderful, have fun snow shoeing on Sunday. So, from your guests from Canada -

Our 2nd stay with Brian and Marianne and we’re sad to leave as it feels like home - better actually! Arriving late on 2nd January to the Christmas tree lit up and a fire glowing was just wonderful. Last year we came in May, now January and we love the area in all seasons. Local French and all residents are helpful and friendly and we’re already planning our return. Had the pleasure of walking Monty and Maddie twice, 2 of the happiest and best natured dogs you’d wish to meet - we love them! As for Brian and Marianne - 2 superb hosts that have become and will remain firm friends, thank you! Love,
Amanda and Rob xx
We had a really nice stay, it was peaceful, calm and relaxing. The house was just the right size and had everything we needed. The usual anticipation of “going home” is not with me leaving this cottage, so I suspect we didn’t stay long enough. Beautiful place and the fireplace was really enjoyable. Thank you and happy and prosperous New Year 2018.

We have stayed in many Gites over the past 30+ years and observed quite variable standards! We can only think of one other which anywhere near compares with this. The combined quality of the Gite, it’s setting and it’s most welcoming hosts have made for a superb 6 night stay midway through a 3 week holiday. We are only sorry that we didn’t arrange to stay longer! Forgot to mention the excellent weather too! We have enjoyed our brief chats with Marianne and Brian and of course the regular visits from Monty and Maddie! All such special hosts! Can’t promise to come back but note how many have. Would recommend to our friends without hesitation. Brian - hope the amplifier project works out as well as the beer, and of course here - what a wonderful place to work. Very best wishes,

What can we add that hasn’t already been said - Le Fournil is perfect. That can be an overused term but in this case it is 100% accurate. We had an amazing time and leave here wishing we could stay on and on. We feel we have made great friends with Brian and Marianne and of course Monty and Maddie! We look forward to returning again and spending another great holiday here. Thank you both so so much!

Who would have thought that Brian would meet a fellow Cornishman, born in the same hospital! Great stay at Le Fournil. You cannot fault the Gite - nor the hospitality of Marianne and Brian accompanied by their dogs Monty and Maddie. Although the weather was somewhat changeable the area has so much to offer and we certainly made the most of what was on offer - from Gouffres to Roman Villas; the highs of Superbagnères to the lows of Grottes! Brilliant stay in all respects.

Just fabulous - from the moment we arrived to the moment we left - with super memories of our week. Thank you both so much for making us very welcome - once again! Weather was mixed but we did have plenty of sunny blue skies and time by the pool. This was a walking holiday and we had three excellent walks. One with Marc who was brilliant in showing us flora and fauna of the mountains. He went at our pace! We also walked up to Port de Vénasque, fabulous views! Start early for this one. The lakes of Neouvielle were breathtaking. Views from Col d’Aspin and Vallée de Lesponne of Pic du Midi - wonderful! We will be back again, Marianne and Brian, we WILL!!! :-) There’s so much more to do and see.
Sarah and Simon P.S. love to Monty and Maddie - so well behaved for us!

Thank you both once again for making us feel very welcome. Have had a brilliant week here. It’s been so good to have the chance to recharge our batteries. It really does feel like our second home here now. The beautiful countryside and the amazing accommodation is just perfect for us. Hopefully we’ll be back soon.
Alison, Simon, Leigh and Sharnia P.S. we will miss seeing Monty and Maddie...love them both.
11th August 2017
We return for our second visit so feeling slightly inferior compared to some other guests! Just as beautiful as we remembered from 2 years ago and this time we were lucky enough to spend 2 weeks in this special place and area of France. Brian, Marianne, Monty and Maddie very welcoming as always and we were so taken with here last time that Neil’s parents joined us for 4 days staying at the equally beautiful B&B. Lucky they had a flight booked back otherwise I’m sure they would have stayed, they loved it all! We revisited the Pic du Midi (the mobile app very good with their webcam to check the weather!), Luchon and also the various Cols to inspire us on our bikes one day.....maybe.... Lourdes was an experience with mixed reactions of our group but we all loved Saint Bertrand de Comminges and the walks around that area as well as a days tour of Toulouse - well worth doing if an overcast day. Tourist offices everywhere SO helpful! Highlights for the kids were the river walking and mountain walking with mountain guide Marc. Well worth the money for this amazing experience and knowledge you gain. Both days were overcast but still had a great day and the picnic on the mountain was amazing. Marc caters for all including the kids, and wine for the adults! The walk to Lac d’Oô was also a great experience and that was even before we witnessed the mountain rescue team winch an injured hiker through the trees. Lovely small cafe at the top to refresh you and a large carpark at the bottom. I could go on and on about all of the stunning places to sample in anyone’s time spent here but that’s the joy of staying here in this little piece of paradise called “Le Fournil” - it’s just a pure delight to wander, discover, explore and take in every piece of the local atmosphere. A wonderful stay creating many memories for all of us. Hopefully we can get a 3rd stay booked in soon.

The return of “The Bells” x visit 4 Dear Brian and Marianne, Yet again a wonderful holiday and we are so sad to be leaving. Lots of new adventures this year! Cycling has been magnificent, especially on the closed road Cols. Alex and Darren loved the river walk! You are such wonderful friends and always make us feel so at home. Thank you!!! See you in 2018!!! Lots of love
Helen, Darren, Alex and Ailla It’s been wonderful staying in the gite, my favourite part was river walking. From Alex and Ailla

Another wonderful 2 weeks at Le Fournil - our 2nd visit. Marianne and Brian's hospitality is outstanding - even baking a cake to celebrate a "special" birthday. Thank you! As ever the gite is comfortable and well equipped - and again what a welcome pack!! We did some fantastic walks - recommend Mont Né - or the walk to the nearby lake - well worth a drive up just to see the views even if you don't walk. Ask Marianne for details of how to get there. Also the walk from the Col de Menté is lovely. We ate at Le Citron Bleu in Montréjeau - excellent - lunchtimes only though! Our son joined for the 2nd week - for "the birthday" - and he loved it just as much as we do - thank you Marianne and Brian for making him so welcome. Again - Monty and Maddie - what lovely dogs!! So much more to do - as again just sitting on the patio/by the pool takes up so much time!! Therefore we'll be back next year again - why would we want to go anywhere else!!?

We've enjoyed a peaceful, comfortable stay at Le Fournil on our annual cycling holiday, our third year year in the Pyrenees. Thanks , Marianne and Brian, for your hospitality and helpful advice. The very best of our restful (relatively!) non-cycling days was spent with the superb local guide, Marc Chatonnay, who led us on a full day's walk high above the Col de Antigascon to see the flora and fauna of the high mountains. We can't recommend him highly enough. It was a day that will live long in our memories. We also recommend crossing the Spanish border via the Col de Portillon on a fine day to visit Bossost, and the Balnea Thermal Spa in the Louron valley. Such a wonderful part of the world here, not least its impressive palaeolithic heritage! We're already planning our next adventure here.

Despite being a short 5 day break, we felt relaxed from day 1 and wished we'd booked longer. Brian and Marianne are great hosts and we feel we've know them for longer. We love the gite, esting meals outside listening to the bird song, exploring the local history and so much more. We will definitely return, thank you for making our stay a wonderful memorable time.

We've had a fantastic 2 weeks in this lovely gite. We intended to do so many walks! - but instead have spent hours just looking at the fabulous views from the patios and the pool!!! It's a good thing we have already booked to come back next year!! You have made the gite so relaxing and comfortable Marianne and Brian - by far the best equipped we have stayed in - thank you! When we did tear ourselves away - we would recommend Arreau - the Thursday market is excellent, the walk to Lac d'Oô and Bagnères de Bigorre. Many thanks for your suggestions and excellent local knowledge. We loved Monty and Maddie also - of course! Looking forward to next June already.

Dear Marianne and Brian, We have had a fantastic week here. The location, accommodation and grounds are amazing. This is paradise to us, and have been moved to tears several times! Thank you for making us feel so welcome. Thank you also for your welcome pack.....the jam was so yummy! Our week here will have a special place in our hearts, simply unforgettable. Hopefully we'll be back next year.

Saturday 20 - 27 August 2016
What a wonderful week we have spent in this idyllic location! The gite itself is a fantastic base to explore the region, but as much as anything we have enjoyed just being here, having dips in the pool, eating on the terrace with the views of the mountains; birdwatching by day and stargazing at night. Our excuse for not going far was the extremely hot weather, but we very much enjoyed the Roman villa at Montmaurin amd had a walk up from the Col de Menté to the Pic de l'Escalette. Thank you, Marianne, for that suggestion - it was just the taste of the mountains that the boys were looking for! The gite has everything we could possibly wish for (comfy beds, fluffy towels!) and some lovely thoughtful touches - the welcome tray (especially the jam!), the selection of herbal teas, ample supplies of tea, coffee, dishwasher tablets, washing powder, full sets of china and cutlery and every conceivable utensil - I could go on! Honestly your attention to detail cannot be faulted! The boys (and I have to admit the grown-ups) have especially enjoyed getting to know Monty and Maddie - thank you for letting us borrow them temporarily. No doubt we will be in for some serious pestering when we get home (if we haven't smuggled them into the car somehow!). Thank you for a great stay once again, I'm sure we will be back!

Dear Marianne and Brian, We've had a wonderful relaxing week at Le Fournil. As you probably noticed we made use of the pool many times! Dear Brian and Marianne (Monty and Maddie), 3rd time here....it feels like home the moment we step through the front door. Once again we have all had a fantastic time! The cycling has been wonderful even if I didn't manage as much as usual but Darren made up for it on the Bales and Tourmalet - next year the Portillon without fail!!! Laying on the sunloungers watching meteors was wonderful and thanks so much for introducing us to your wonderful friends who are now feeling very much friends to us - Peter, Rosemary, Marion and of course John "The ......."!!! It has been great to share the time also with Mum and Dad who really enjoyed the B&B and of course the kids have just had the perfect time! Can't wait for 2017 - it will come around so quickly. Until then "à bientôt"....and we will be in touch soon! All our love and best wishes

Well we have returned and it is just as good in the summer as it was at Christmas! Thank you so much, to you both and Monty and Maddie, for making our week's holiday so special. It was super to catch up on all the goings on and your improvements. The pool is a wonderful addition to our holiday as in the winter all we could do was admire it! The gite is so well equipt and cosy. We spent our time walking in the Pyrenees, which was something we couldn't do last time - too much snow!! So it was brilliant to revisit sites in the green!! So much to see and do. We've left bits for next time.

Thank you Brian and Marianne for your very warm welcome. We have thoroughly enjoyed our week in your very comfortable gite which has truly been a home from home. Our highlights have been seeing the Tour de France fly past and all the fun of the caravane and our visit to the Pic du Midi with its amazing views. We have enjoyed some wonderful walks in the surrounding area and the Pyrenees, so thanks for your recommendations. Thanks also to Brian for escorting our hubbies on their bikes in the surrounding area. It may not have been the classic climb they craved but they had an amazing time nonetheless. Thanks also to Monty and Maddie for entertaining us throughout the week. With best wishes

Thank you, Marianne and Brian! The stay at your beautiful place has been a highpoint of our vacation. We've stayed at many vacation rentals in Europe and the US, and yours ranks among the very best. Everything has been so well thought out that it was easy to just relax and enjoy the beautiful house and the lovely view. Also, the good local products you welcomed us with were great. The cake, fig jam, the walnuts were a real treat. And we loved the fruit, just perfectly ripe and ready to eat, another example of your great attention to detail. Thank you again for your great hospitality. We would love to come back some day. Those amazing mountains appearing out of the clouds as we drove up toward the Col de Tourmalet were a sight we'll never forget. And we know we've only scratched the surface of this beautiful part of the world!

Dear Marianne, dear Brian, Having been here 2 years ago I've been keen to come back with the whole family. I wanted them to experience the lovely gite, amazing views and wonderful hospitality. What the two of you built here is truly amazing: the well-equipped gite, the beautiful B&B rooms and great setting are truly one-of-a-kind! We enjoyed ourselves immensely and promise to be back soon. Thank you for creating this little paradise and for sharing it with guests and friends. Big hug from

Dear Brian and Marianne, Thank you for a wonderful stay in your beautiful gite. Sadly our short stay is over and we have to move on. We like to travel and see as much as we can as we come from so far away but your beautiful home from home tempted us to stay. You have thought of everything a traveller would need down to the smallest detail which was a wonderful surprise. Outside the view and the surroundings are just magic. We came from a stressful 14 hour day job which left little time for sleep to this peaceful heaven where we slept blissfully for 10 hours a day! Congratulations for all your hard work, it certainly shows the love and care that you have for your new escape to the country. Thank you once again and if you are ever in Australia please get in touch. Regards and best wishes for the future.

We enjoyed a lovely week in the cottage. You could never tire of looking at the gorgeous view whilst swimming or dining outside. The weather was a bit damp for a few days and we really appreciated having the comfortable "home from home" for shelter. Thanks ever so much for all the "goodies" upon arrival. The homemade jam was lovely and the homemade beer a real treat. We appreciated your suggestions on local attractions. The folder in the gite was a real help plus all the books, maps and leaflets you have left for guests to use. This helped us find some spectacular walks in the mountains. Thanks for a great holiday.

Brian and Marianne, Once again thank you for such a wonderful holiday in your beautiful gite. We loved the village fete and have made some great new friends along the way. Once again the pool and garden have delighted Alex and Ailla, and Darren and I loved the company for the cycling (I hope my QOMs remain intact until at least next year!). We can't wait until we return in August next year! Until then, á bientôt!

Le Fournil is one of those places that you want to go home and tell everyone how wonderful the whole experience is but thinking again - if we did that it may mean we won't be able to stay again as it will be all booked up! So.........we have played safe - booked another stay for 2017, then will return to the UK and try to describe how wonderful it is here! Agree with all the other comments of how beautiful, relaxing, welcoming this gite is and how lovely our hosts Brian and Marianne are. Not forgetting "Monty" who just adds to the whole "Le Fournil" experience. The pool is a big hit with the children to cool down on a hot day! Loved the star gazing as well - amazing! Weather has been kind to us this week with the sunny days being spent in the mountains trying to take in all the stunning scenery. Pic du Midi, a great trip, we took Brian's advice on getting there early to avoid the crowds. The less sunny days spent at other local sites (the blue file of information provided very helpful), just cycling and walking the local routes. We will be very sad to leave tomorrow having been made so very welcome here and just so much more to explore. Will very much look forward to our next visit in 2017.
With many thanks to Brian and Marianne for letting us share this magical place you have. Selena, Neil, Tom (10, nearly 10!) and Emily (11 3/4!)

The Gite has totally exceeded our expectations and provided a wonderful base from which to look at and explore this beautiful area. The ever changing views are truly awesome. Brian and Marianne, you have been the perfect hosts, providing us with your beautiful Gite, your kindness and your local knowledge has been invaluable. We are certain that your business plan is working and the "high end" quality will provide much repeat business. Monty has entertained us also and provided a regular "welcome home" after our sight seeing trips. We feel the "Le Fournil Experience" has given us a great holiday and provided new friends in you both.

Le Fournil - what a find! Beautifully located with a magnificent panoramic mountain view. Exceedingly well equipped, comfortable bed and stunning bathroom. Marianne and Brian were wonderful hosts - they seem to have got everything just perfect! Brilliant pool and shaded parking were the icing on the cake. We had a great 12-day stay! One thing I forgot to mention in the testimonial was the good WiFi connection. As we spend rather a lot of time on the net that was much appreciated.

We have found friends in Brian, Marianne and Monty! A new area for us to discover and we have been wonderfully rewarded. Can only confirm the positive reviews of previous guests and give no greater recommendation than that we have booked for next year. Exceptional Gite and exceptional hosts! Á bientôt et merci

What a great holiday! Exceptionally kind and helpful hosts, always available but never intrusive. Best equipped holiday home we've ever been in. Such a variety of things to do, from lazing by the pool to walks right from the Gite, to long drives in the Pyrenees. And the food.... Thank you so much.

We enjoyed 2 weeks here last year so 1 week this year was not enough! Never mind, there is always next years.

A 3 night stay just isn't long enough. We have had a marvellous break in this beautiful Gite in a wonderful location. Brian and Marianne are lovely hosts, friendly and welcoming but know how to give their guests space. Le Fournil is one of the best appointed and homely Gites we have ever visited with lots of thought, the little touches that make it feel like home. We will be back! Love

Brian and Marianne, thank you for your fantastic hospitality. The Gite has been a great base for our house search. We'll be back, either to pick your brains again, to recommence our search or just a short stop for signing documents. We may not have found an exact replica but we did our best! Thank you again, looking forward to seeing you again soon.

Well, what can I say? We have "lived" here in our "holiday home" for a month now and it seems only a week ago that we arrived! Everything has been lovely and done with a lot of thought and care - from duvet covers to, yes, that famous Apricot jam! We do not want to leave - you are our "neighbours" after all! The views you enjoy on a sunny day are amazing. We have loved checking the view every morning to see if our mountains are there. The only blur has been the weather which hasn't really behaved as we would have liked - but we did have one wonderful week and a bit more. Louis (3 1/2) and Freya (22 months) have loved being here - digging in the grange and field and going on "muskrat hunts" by the canal. They have grown and developed - a great experience for all. I hope that we haven't disturbed you with our noise too much. It has been such a pleasure to be here and chat with you. You are great hosts, always having time for your guests.
